This Saturday is Software Freedom Day 2007. My local event is in Bracknell where a friend from my LUG has organised an event. Alas there is engineering work on the trains so I can't get there to help out!

Kim Brebach has written a very good article that is well worth reading: 13 reasons why Linux won't make it to a desktop near you. I would argue that Linux uptake is starting and in larger organisations it's now gaining traction. However, for the home user and small organisation it's only happening if the person is a "convert" otherwise that sector is stuck with expensive shrink-wrapped software, for reasons very much as Kim describes.
